Fueling talent: Karim Malouche explores FIFA’s financial support for Youth National Teams

Karim is Head of Performance at the Jordan Football Association. He shared his experience on how they successfully completed the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) application process, to embrace technological advancements and foster talent on the widest scale. Let’s delve together into the impact of the TDS on youth football development.

Karim, could you walk us through the process of implementing the FIFA Talent Development Scheme with the Jordanian National Team, highlighting any challenges encountered and how you navigated through them?

Each Member Association (MA) undergoes an “evaluation” process, during which they must present their development plan and strategy to FIFA experts. Following this, the MA must furnish a list detailing the equipment’s name, intended purpose, quantity, and cost. FIFA will subsequently evaluate these details before releasing the funds.
Upon fund availability, ensuring seamless communication among the involved parties is paramount. This includes the Physical department, the finance/procurement department, and the equipment provider company.

 

From your perspective, why is it crucial for federations to embrace technological advancements, such as GPS tracking systems, in supporting the development of youth national teams?

It’s undeniable that technology plays a pivotal role in modern football. The intricacies that can make significant differences often hinge on the quantity and quality of collected data. Our goal is to have high-performing players who recover quickly and remain injury-free. Achieving this requires comprehensive information about the player’s body and its functionality. While data collection is pivotal, interpreting it correctly is equally essential.
In this regard, gpexe supports its users with Power BI, an outstanding tool for centralising and interpreting data according to each user’s preferences and work strategies.
Through the use of GPS in youth training, we can monitor and manage training loads effectively. This allows us to plan optimally, reduce injury rates, enhance performance, and expedite recovery. Creating these favourable conditions for youth represents a significant stride towards development.

What advice or insights would you offer to other federations looking to enhance their talent development programs through initiatives like the FIFA Talent Development Scheme?

I strongly urge all qualifying MAs to seize this opportunity presented by the TDS. Football is rapidly evolving, with technology playing an integral role in its advancement. By integrating wearable technology into their development strategies, MAs can gain a significant edge over counterparts who overlook this aspect.
